Can you believe we only have 10 tickets left!?!? Can you believe we only have 10 tickets left!?!?

That's wild.
This is a shout out to @sereniteahq and @zoeticteas for their generous support of this event.

In my wild decision to give everyone who attends a gift I was searching for tea in my local area and found these gorgeous companies tucked away in the Industrial Estate of Heidelberg Heights...just a few streets away from my house!

@banyulecouncil certainly has some magic gems hidden away in its little back streets.

Ashish from SereniTEA donated a stunning wooden tea box with three different teas in it to our raffle!

Our raffle funds are always split 50/50 between Mother Tongue Poetry and another organisation that supports women or LGBTQI+ communities. This event we will donate that half to @djirravic who do INCREDIBLE work supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are survivors of domestic violence.

Want to come? Jump in quick as there's only 10 tickets left 😊 check our bio.

We also have one or two spots available for volunteer/support crew if you want to get involved send us a DM.

See you there!

There is also Auslan and Live Captioning now available thanks to the generous support of @womenwithdisabilitiesvic

How cute are these bath salts? They have been made from rescued and donated items. The tubes all came from Facebook marketplace from someone's left over craft supplies. The salts were donated by our friend David. The roses were from one of our neighbours who dried them especially for us!

How lucky are we!

Fleassy is focused on making a range of cute gifts for everyone who comes. They should be focusing on organisation but have been distracted by the idea that every single person who comes deserves to feel celebrated with a hand made gift 🤣

Do you have your tickets yet?

In a packed out gallery in Collingwood we took the stage sharing spoken word whilst being surrounded by the portraits of inspiring and influential women from throughout history.

We love what the Global Women's Project does. If you don't know them, check them out. (You may have even seen them mentioned on the recent series 1 of @heartbreaknetflix )

We hope to see some of you at our 10 year anniversary event on March 8th!

There are so many people involved in making events There are so many people involved in making events like this happen.
Today we would like to acknowledge and thank two particular organisations whose support has been integral to this project happening.

The idea for this event was seeded after attending the Banyule City Council Volunteer celebration day held in the same venue. With encouragement from the MT team we applied for a Banyule Arts and Culture Project Grant. This is our first success full grant application in 10 years of running events and we are so grateful and excited to have this opportunity to fulfil a vision to its fullest.
Thank you Banyule City Council Arts and Culture!

The second group we would like to acknowledge and thank is Community Bank East Ivanhoe. We have been doing our banking with Bendigo bank from the beginning because we love the community focus that Bendigo holds. A few years ago we were actually approached by the team who were interested to know what we were up to and to see if they could support us. Unfortunately at the time it was not possible, however when we realised we needed some more support to provide catering at this event, Community Bank East Ivanhoe were the first people we thought of. We are delighted in their support of this project and so grateful for the way they continue to feed back into local community organisations like ours.
A Decade: Retrospective - When scanning through ou A Decade: Retrospective - When scanning through our history, so so many faces and names appear that have been integral parts of the puzzle that is Mother Tongue.

This photo is from the first feature Arielle Cottingham ever did with us in 2016. The impact they made that night on our audience was tangible. Arielle became a central member of the Spoken Word community, won slams and awards, and is still now when they return to the city a wave of buzz spreads across the community in excitement to see them again.

We love you Arielle. Thank you for being part of our history.

ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT! We are so incredibly excited ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT!
We are so incredibly excited to announce Pilepileta as one of our performers for our March 8th event. ( @[17841405642127218:@impossible_skye] @D@[17841448430753471:@djarima_arts] )

We have had the absolute privilege of baring witness to Pilepileta's creative journey for a decade. They have been a feature more times than we can count, and also a huge part of our extended community, audience, and open mic throughout the past ten years.

Thank you for being with us over the years <3 <3

PILEPILETA:
Pilepileta weaves many roles and responsibilities in this lifetime. Midwife, Mother, Lover, Boss-Lady, Artist, Writer, Hot Air Balloon Pilot.

First and foremost, Pilepileta is 60,000 years of Dreaming – standing on the shoulders of her ancestors - the proud and fierce Wergaia and Wemba Wemba mobs. They are the Malleegunditj – the People of the Mallee and their Country is red sand, salt lakes, river, eucalyptus and sky.

Pilepiletas sharings are not just honest, raw and radical truth-telling but also a call to action. What touches you in their words, you must call yourself to action and no longer remain silent or fence sit around issues of racism. We are all in this together.

Nic was the co-host of Mother Tongue in our early years (ten FREAKING years ago!). She was an integral part of the foundations and forming of Mother Tongue and who we grew to be.

Nicole's vibrance, vulnerability, and power shone through when she was on stage and she is, to this day, deeply missed by members of the team.

Nic, THANK YOU for everything you brought to Mother Tongue, and know that you are ALWAYS welcome back here in what ever format works for you. ^_^ Our arms and hearts are always open for you.

ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT! We are very excited to announ ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT!
We are very excited to announce Sam Petersen @sampetercine as one of our 6 amazing performers for March 8th.

You have been such a huge part of Mother Tongue over the past 4 years Sam, and we are so excited to have your sassy, playful, yet deeply real presence on our stage once again.

SAM PETERSEN
"Hi, my name is Sam.

I go by the pronouns you/your. Or just call me Sam when referring to me.

Born in the early 80s, I have mousey brown hair and fair skin. I'm an AAC and power wheelchair user.

I am a visual artist, writer and performer.

I’m interested in what can be done with one’s identity and the space around it. Both my body and mind, touching everyday feelings between the rational, the playful and the political.

Of course, this is often to do with my disability and my sexuality. My work has been focused on access, and the lack of it — to places, people’s minds and opportunities.

I am a third generation white settler, of German and British descent. I live and work by the Birrarung, on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung people of the Kulin nation. I pay my respects to Elders both past, present and to the future. Land that was, and still is being stolen.

My access needs are time to communicate, zoom when appropriate and power wheelchair access when not. These needs may cost more, but it's my life."

Charlotte went on to feature for us many many times over the past decade. She regularly pushed the boundaries of storytelling through movement, voice, and singing. Charlotte holds a special place in our Mother Tongue history. Thanks for being part of it Charlotte!

We are absolutely stoked to announce the next feature performer for our International Women's Day event: Women of Banyule and Beyond.

🔥 GEORGIA FIELDS 🔥
Georgia Fields combines the astral with the ordinary, earning her a reputation as one of our brightest singer-songwriters. A widescreen vision of melodic, artful pop, her third album "Hiraeth" was released in November 2022. Georgia's magnetic solo show sees the sonic shapeshifter move deftly from electric guitar to mini-synth and textural live looping, “painting entire worlds with her tunes” (Frankie Magazine)

This photo is from Candy's first feature with us back in 2013, we were lucky enough to see her on our stage multiple times over the years. If you don't know the work of Candy Royalle please look her up. A Sydney based poet she was an activist and a proud voice and advocate for visibility for Women of Colour.

Her poetry was infused with a profound and deep sense of heart, justice, ferocity, and love.

Candy passed away in 2018 but the ripples of her work is still felt today through the Australian literature and performance community with dedications, and reflections on her as an artist.

Mother Tongue Poetry would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we run. The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We honour the deeply rooted history of the stories they have carried and told on this land. May their stories live strong and be carried for many more generations.
